Congratulations, WestJet Contact Centre Workers!

You Did It!

After months of organizing, conversations, determination and more than a few delays along the way, WestJet Contact Centre workers have voted to join Unifor.

Nearly 750 WestJet Contact Centre employees had the opportunity to participate in this historic vote, with 88.7% voting YES to join Unifor.

This victory belongs to you.

From the very beginning, Contact Centre workers stepped forward because you wanted a stronger collective voice and the legal right to bargain with WestJet over your wages, benefits, job security and working conditions.

You signed cards. You spoke with your coworkers. You asked questions. You attended meetings. You organized. And when the time finally came, you voted.

Today, all that hard work paid off.

What happens next?

The vote is an important step in the certification process. The Returning Officer will report the results to the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB), which will proceed to issue the official certification order.

In the coming days and weeks, we will provide you with a clear plan for the next steps, including:

  • your assignment to a Unifor Local Union;
  • the process and timeline for nominations and elections for your first bargaining committee;
  • opportunities for Contact Centre workers to identify and submit your priorities for bargaining;
  • the assignment of a Unifor National Service Representative, who will work directly with your elected bargaining committee, Local Union and Unifor’s national departments; and
  • beginning the work of negotiating your first collective agreement with WestJet.

This is just the beginning

There will be a lot of work ahead, but today is a day to recognize what you accomplished together.

You stayed committed through a long organizing campaign and a lengthy certification process. You supported one another, kept talking with your coworkers and kept moving forward despite the delays.

In the end, WestJet Contact Centre workers made their voices heard.

You organized your workplace.

You chose collective bargaining.

And you did it together.

Congratulations and welcome to Unifor!

We are incredibly excited for you as you begin this next chapter.

In solidarity,
Unifor Organizing Team
