Notice of Nomination & Election Period: YYZ Workplace Representatives - ATW
Unifor Local 531 YYZ ATW Members,
Please be advised that the six (6) original three-year terms for the YYZ Workplace Representatives (WPR) - ATW will expire this July 2026. Consequently, nominations and elections for these six positions will take place throughout the month of July.
Role Overview: What is a Workplace Representative?
A Workplace Representative serves as a vital link between union leadership and members. WPRs are expected to be experts on the collective agreement, supporting members in real-time, communicating updates, and ensuring operational compliance. WPRs report to their base Unit Chair and must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all member matters. Please review the attached informational documents for further details.
Time Commitment and Expectations:
- General Membership Meetings: Unpaid; held quarterly.
- Workplace Representative Meetings: Paid; scheduled as required.
- Initial Training: Paid; integrated into your work schedule.
- Member Communications: Conducted in-person and via social media.
- Accountability: Personal responsibility to understand the CBA.
- Member Support: Assist members during meetings as assigned by the Unit Chair (Paid; includes occasional on-site on-call duties).
Important Dates:
- Nomination Period Opens: Friday, July 3, 07:00 ET
- Nomination Period Closes: Sunday, July 5, 19:00 ET
- Nomination Acceptance & Candidate Submissions: Sunday, July 5, 19:00 ET – Tuesday, July 7, 19:00 ET
- Campaign Period: Opens upon candidate acceptance; ends Friday, July 17, 19:00 ET
- Voting Period: Thursday, July 16, 07:00 ET – Friday, July 17, 19:00 ET
Nomination Process
Nominations must be submitted via the Simply Voting platform. Login credentials will be sent to your personal email address when the nomination period opens. Members may nominate themselves or their colleagues; we encourage nominators to inform nominees of their submission. Nominees must formally accept via Simply Voting and provide a photo and statement to be included on the ballot and the Local’s website.
Voting Information
Eligible voters will receive a unique, secure ballot link from Simply Voting at the start of the voting period. If you do not receive your credentials during the designated times, please contact the Elections Committee immediately at elections@uniforlocal531.ca.
