We are pleased to announce the Nomination and Election Periods for the four (4) interim YVR Workplace Representative positions and (2) interim YYZ BTW Workplace Representative positions available at this time.
Role Overview: What is a Workplace Representative?
A Workplace Representative (WPR) serves as a key point of contact between union leadership and members. WPRs are expected to be collective agreement experts who support members in real-time, communicate union updates, and ensure the collective agreement is followed in daily operations. WPRs report to the Unit Chair at their base and must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all member matters.
Time Commitment and Expectations:
- General Membership Meetings: Unpaid, quarterly.
- Workplace Representative Meetings: Paid, schedule TBD.
- Initial Training: Paid, integrated into your work schedule.
- Member Communications: In-person and via social media.
- Accountability: Personal responsibility to read and understand the CBA.
- Member Support: Support fellow members during investigative or outcome meetings as assigned by the Unit Chair (Paid; occasional on-site on-call).
Important Dates:
- Nomination and Election Period Notice: Monday, March 30, 2026
- Nomination Period Opens: Monday, April 06 at 0700 PT
- Nomination Period Closes: Thursday, April 09 at 1900 PT
- Nomination Acceptance Period Opens: Thursday, April 09 at 1900 PT
- Nomination Acceptance Period Closes: Saturday, April 11 at 1900 PT
- Candidate Photo & Statement Submission Period: Thursday, April 09 at 1900 PT - Saturday, April 11 at 1900 PT
- Campaign Period Opens: upon Acceptance of Candidate by the Election Committee via the Simply Voting platform at Close of the Nomination Acceptance Period, Saturday, April 11 at 1900 PT
- Voting Period Opens: Tuesday, April 21 at 0700 PT
- Voting Period Closes: Wednesday, April 22 at 1900 PT
- Campaign Period Closes: upon Close of the Voting Period, Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at 1900 PT
Nomination Process
To submit a nomination, please use the Simply Voting platform. Your login credentials will be sent to your personal email address when the nomination period opens. Members are welcome to nominate themselves or others they feel are suited for this role. The Elections Committee strongly encourages nominators to inform nominees of their submission.
Nominees must accept their nomination via Simply Voting and provide a photo and statement during the Nomination Acceptance Period to appear on the Local’s website and the ballot.
Voting Information
The voting period will occur from Tuesday, April 21 at 0700 PT to Wednesday, April 22 at 1900 PT. All eligible electors will receive a unique link from Simply Voting to cast a confidential and secure vote at the Opening of the Voting Period.
