Does a family vacation on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron in Ontario at a resort-like facility where accommodations and food are all looked after at no cost to you or our local union sound too good to be true? Unifor’s Family Education Program offers this and so much more.
The Unifor Family Education Program is funded by the National Union. There is no cost to our Local Union or members and their families to participate in the program.
This year there are two (2) English Language sessions.
- Sunday, August 09th to Sunday, August 16th inclusive
- Sunday, August 16th to Sunday, August 23rd inclusive (ASL interpretation available)
The call letter and an application form have been emailed to all members. If you are interested in participating in the Family Education program complete the application and return it via email to @email no later than Monday, March 9. All applications must be approved by the Local Union President.
The program is open to members and their immediate families (spouse/partner and dependent children up to and including 18 years of age only). Members are not eligible if they attended the Family Education Program within the last (7) seven years.
Successful applicants will be notified by April 10th, 2026.
Members must have the time off work to attend. This requires our members to either have awarded vacation during their education week or rely on shift trades, VTOs and days off to attend. Vancouver and Calgary members will be flown to Toronto Saturday prior to their education week begins. Families will be accommodated in a Toronto area hotel for the night and then will take a shuttle bus arranged by Unifor to the Family Education Centre on Sunday. Toronto based members can either drive their own car to Port Elgin or take one of the shuttle buses. When submitting your application to the Local Union President, please indicate that you are able to commit to these requirements and schedule.
Many of our members in YVR, YYC and YYZ have had the opportunity to experience this amazing family vacation and have nothing but positive things to say about their time in Port Elgin.
