Unifor Local 531 is proud to welcome Ashley Haines as the interim Women’s Advocate for YVR. Ashley joined WestJet in 2023 and brings a wealth of education, experience, and compassion to this important role.
Ashley holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Sociology from the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she earned multiple awards recognizing her leadership and academic excellence. Her professional background includes serving as the Elections Administrator for the Alma Mater Society of UBC, and working as a Community Outreach Coordinator with a law firm specializing in Indigenous legal and communications initiatives. She has also contributed extensively through volunteer work in her community—as Philanthropy Chair for the UBC Arts Undergraduate Society, a Rotary community volunteer, and through numerous student and community engagement projects.
Ashley’s background in restorative justice mediation and facilitation, a practice she’s been trained in for over 11 years, has strengthened her commitment to person-centered advocacy and compassionate support. She has led restorative circles in the Langley and Maple Ridge school districts, helping students develop the tools to support their peers through respectful dialogue and understanding.
Please join us in welcoming Ashley Haines to her new role. We are confident that her empathy, professionalism, and commitment to advocacy will make her a trusted and valued support for our members at YVR and across Local 531.
Hi everyone! My name is Ashley, and I’m a YVR-based CSA. I’ve been with WestJet since August 2023, and I’m so excited and honoured to step into the role of Women’s Advocate here at YVR!
What I’m most excited about is being someone you can turn to when you need support, guidance, or just a listening ear—on or off shift. One of the things I’m especially thankful for at WestJet is the strong community of women, many of whom I deeply look up to. Being able to help build a stronger, more empowered, and connected workplace community is something I’m really passionate about, and I genuinely look forward to building and strengthening meaningful relationships with all of you.
When I’m not at work, you can find me in Langley visiting the dairy calves and barn cats at my parents’ house, curating Spotify playlists, meal prepping, and trying to gain the courage to revisit my sourdough baking journey (any tips are welcome—my last attempt was horrific).
Whether it’s on the floor, over text, or via email, I look forward to connecting with you soon! Keep an eye out for some exciting events and communications from me in the coming months—and please never hesitate to reach out, no matter what.
