Unifor Local 531 is now accepting applications for the interim Women’s Advocate position at YVR. This role is a vital resource negotiated in our Collective Agreement with WestJet and provides critical support to our members. We are looking for someone who is compassionate, empathetic, and committed to supporting members with care, discretion, and respect.
The Women’s Advocate is a specially trained union representative who provides confidential support and referrals on issues such as:
- Workplace harassment
- Sexual assault and domestic violence
- Suicide prevention and depression
- Pregnancy, stress, separation, and divorce
The role is not about providing counselling but about listening, supporting, and connecting all members with the appropriate community and workplace resources.
Responsibilities include:
- Serving as a point of contact for members who need support
- Maintaining confidentiality and trust
- Reporting to the President of Unifor Local 531
- Organizing and running the Women’s Committee at YVR
- Collaborating with workplace management teams
- Hosting awareness events at the workplace
- Joining events outside of the workplace

- Commitment to supporting women and all members facing difficult issues
Details:
- Interim appointment until February 2026 (with the possibility of a three-year term)
- Must be available to attend a 40-hour basic Women’s Advocate training at the Unifor Education Centre in Ontario, November 15–21, 2025 (arrangements will be made for transportation and accommodation)
- Advocates are compensated at their regular WestJet rate of pay, with hours worked on an ad-hoc basis
- A private phone will be provided for this role.
