This morning, the WestJet flight attendants served notice to bargain with the company. Our President, Karen Berry sent a letter of solidarity to the members of CUPE Local 8125, which you can read below.
To the members of CUPE Local 8125,
On behalf of Unifor Local 531, representing airport agents in Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto, we extend our solidarity as you serve notice to bargain with WestJet. We stand firmly with you as you demand fairness, respect, and recognition for the pivotal role flight attendants play in the aviation industry.
We are watching the actions of both the company and the Canadian government closely and urge them to respect the bargaining process and uphold the rights of workers. The dedication and professionalism of flight attendants have been overlooked or undervalued for far too long. It is time that flight attendants in this country are justly compensated for all the duties and responsibilities they shoulder, not just those in the air, but every moment you work to keep our guests safe and comfortable.
We know that collective bargaining is never easy, but we also know the strength and determination of your bargaining committee will bring to the process. As you move forward in negotiations, know that Unifor Local 531 is with you every step of the way.
Together, we are stronger, and together we will win. We are proud to walk beside you in this fight.
In solidarity,
Karen Berry
President, Unifor Local 531
