On July 15, 2025, Local 531 YVR Unit Chair announced she would be taking a medical leave from her position. On behalf of the Local Union Executive Board and our members, we will dearly miss Breanne during this time but know she will come back stronger than ever. We wish her a speedy recovery!
Dear YVR Local 531 Members,
I was hopeful that I wouldn’t have to write this message—but the time has come for me to step back and take a medical leave.
With great drive, determination, and passion, I’ve continued to serve as your Unit Chairperson while navigating my breast cancer journey. Through diagnosis, two surgeries, and four rounds of chemotherapy, I’ve remained committed to our work and to each of you. While it’s not easy to step away, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together—and I want to assure you that the important work and advocacy will continue in my absence.
In the interim, Mark Enns—YVR Workplace Representative, Local 531 Secretary-Treasurer, organizer, and bargaining committee member (a true jack of all trades)—will be supporting our YVR membership, as appointed during an emergency executive board meeting - per our Local Bylaws. I have full confidence in his ability to carry the torch and continue advancing our shared goals. This email account will remain active and the primary point of contact for all things union, under Mark's watchful eye.
While the duration of my leave is currently unknown, it is my sincere hope—and intention—that I complete treatment and recover swiftly so I can return to the work I love as soon as possible.
Over my 15 years with the company, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many of you. Together, we weathered the challenges of the pandemic, organized and certified our base, bargained our first collective agreement, and built a strong, united voice. Serving as your Unit Chairperson has been one of the greatest honors of my life. This work is not without its challenges, but it brings me purpose and pride every single day.
That’s why making the decision to prioritize my physical and mental health was so difficult. But I know it’s necessary—and I look forward to returning stronger, healthier, and more determined than ever to continue fighting for better working conditions and benefits for all of us.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our Local President, Karen Berry, for her unwavering support of my work and my family.
Everyone is going through something—please, always choose kindness first. We are stronger together.
In solidarity,
Breanne
YVR Unit Chairperson, Local 531
