All members will receive an email from our Election Committee email address over the next two days. This email serves as official notice that the nomination period for the Local 531 Union Election Committee will soon open on July 25, 2025.

We are seeking one (1) member from each base (YYZ, YYC, and YVR) to serve on the Election Committee for a three-year term. This is a crucial role that supports and safeguards the democratic process within our local union.

More details will be sent out during each phase of the Nomination and Election Process.  The information below is preliminary to serve notice to the members


What Does the Election Committee Do?

The Election Committee is responsible for the conduct and supervision of all Local Union elections, guided by:

  • The Unifor Constitution
  • Local Union Bylaws
  • Unifor Policy Regarding Local Union Elections
  • Instructions passed by motion at General Membership Meetings


Please note that Election Committee members are not eligible to:

Run for or hold any elected office including but not limited to, an Executive Board position or Workplace Representative.

Act as a scrutineer for any candidate in an election they supervise.

Late nominations or acceptances will not be accepted under any circumstances. 


Qualities of a Election Committee Member

When considering a member for nomination, please reflect on their:

  • Integrity and honesty
  • Commitment to fairness and transparency
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow rules
  • Past union involvement or knowledge of the election process
  • Ability to remain impartial and maintain confidentiality


The Election Committee plays a critical role in ensuring fair and trusted elections — it is essential that committee members are dependable, objective, and committed to the democratic process.


How to Nominate

To submit a nomination, please email the following information to @email between July 25  0700 PT / 0800 MT / 1000 ET at and July 31 at  0700 PT / 0800 MT / 1000 ET:

  • Your name and your base
  • The name and the base of the member you are nominating
  • Confirmation that they meet the eligibility criteria (they don't hold an elected position in the union and don't plan to run in any upcoming elections and they will not serve as a scrutineer)
  • Confirmation you have alerted the member of your nomination.
  • Nominations will not be accepted prior to the posted times above.
