The nomination period for our upcoming Local 531 elections has officially closed, and we’re excited to introduce the members who have accepted their nominations and are running for the Secretary Treasurer position within our union. Each candidate brings a unique combination of experience, passion, and commitment to representing our membership and strengthening our collective voice.
All members in YYC, YVR and YYZ are eligible to vote in this election.
Union elections are one of the most important ways members can influence the direction of our Local. As you review each candidate, we encourage you to look beyond campaign promises and consider their track record and involvement within the union. Ask yourself:
- Have they been active and engaged at membership meetings or union events?
- Have they demonstrated their ability and commitment to representing and supporting fellow members?
- Do they have a union history of collaboration, professionalism, and accountability?
- Are their campaign statements backed by actions or results?
- Do they understand our collective agreement, our bylaws, the National Constitution, our workplace, and the challenges we face?
Choosing strong, informed, and dedicated leadership is essential to our continued progress. Your vote helps ensure that Local 531 remains member-driven, transparent, and focused on protecting and advancing the rights of all WestJetters.
We encourage every member to take the time to learn about the candidates, ask questions, and participate in the voting process. Together, we will shape the next chapter of our Local’s success. For more information about the election process, please visit our webpage by clicking on this link.

Mark Enns - Unifor Local 531 Secretary Treasurer, Workplace Representative and YVR Customer Service Agent
A big thank you is owed to you, the members of Unifor 531, for giving me the privilege to serve as your Secretary Treasurer over the past three years.
My union journey began over 5 years ago – with a small group of workers, I organized our base during Covid, served on the Bargaining Committee and I now provide financial accountability and experience in this vital role. It would be a privilege to serve as your Secretary Treasurer once again and humbly ask for your vote to continue this important work.
As a nearly 25-year WestJetter, I bring experience from our past bargaining team, along with my background as a former WestJet manager for 17 years and current CSA, to the Secretary-Treasurer role. My involvement across both operations and union work ensures our financial decisions directly support the union’s bargaining priorities, providing the stability and resources needed to secure fair wages, improved working conditions, and stronger protections for all members.
Over the past three years I have been instrumental in ensuring our finances are organized, transparent and secure.
In addition, I have:
- Made the strategic decision to operate as a fully digital local, utilizing QuickBooks for bookkeeping and allowing expenses and receipts to be submitted electronically from across the country.
- Selected a union focused credit union with secure digital two-person verification for all expense approvals, ensuring transparency and financial accountability.
- Eliminated paper cheques, reducing risk of fraud and modernizing our financial processes compared to traditional locals.
- Advocated at the national level to secure 100% funding for our YYC office, providing a visible, central hub for members at our biggest base.
- Collaborated with Unifor National’s finance department to design a robust system for payments, bill-backs, and financial tracking.
- Maintained careful oversight of spending, safeguarding our members’ hard-earned dues.
- Grew our seed money from the initial $25,000 provided by Unifor National to $220,000 today, all while covering operational expenses and wages for your union leaders who work directly for the membership.
- Built a new local from the ground up that has required bold decision-making, entrepreneurial thinking, and resilience, and I’m proud of the solid, sustainable foundation we’ve created for our members.
The year ahead will be pivotal as we prepare for 2026 bargaining, and having strong financial resources will be critical to supporting our members and achieving meaningful gains. As Secretary-Treasurer, I will continue to scrutinize every expenditure, reduce unnecessary costs, and ensure our funds are allocated efficiently - all while maintaining the level of representation and support our members rely on. While our current agreement provided a solid start, its value has eroded over time as the world and our workplaces have changed. Our next agreement must build on the foundation of the first, but it will need to be bold, forward-looking, and fully responsive to the needs of our members today.
Outside of work, I am passionate about traveling and exploring over 50 different countries on stand-by, which broadens my perspective and inspires new ideas. I have also had personal financial success through real estate in Vancouver and previously served as Secretary-Treasurer for one of my Strata Councils. In that role, our Council successfully brought our building to market, achieving a sale of over $180 million. These experiences have strengthened my core financial skills, which I apply every day and bring directly to my role as Secretary-Treasurer of our Local. I am committed to ensuring our union’s finances are managed responsibly, efficiently, and strategically - particularly as we enter the critical 2026 bargaining year.
I appreciate your trust and support in my re-election as Secretary-Treasurer and look forward to continuing to serve our members with transparency, integrity, and dedication.

“DDC, Jeff speaking!” Many of you have heard those words when reaching out for assistance, and you can rest assured that when you hear them, someone is going to work their hardest to help. My name is Jeff Morrison, and I would like to bring that same drive to our union as our Secretary Treasurer. I started with Westjet Airlines in 2004 as a Customer Service Agent, and during my tenure I have worked every above-the-wing unionized floor position. Everything from pushing wheelchairs, to making baggage claims, to boarding guests, before eventually came to my current role DDC in 2015. In my DDC role, I work my hardest to make sure that agents have a good workday. To do that, a lot of things need to happen backstage. These responsibilities are strongly planning and workload focused, time sensitive and have to be financially responsible all at the same time. Having the long term experience in this environment would be an asset for this role. I’m a proud supporter of the union and want to make sure that our union dollars are used fairly and honestly. Our union makes a difference, and I want to help our union succeed as our secretary treasurer.
